Hi, I'm Lauren, the woman behind this venture.
Baking has always been an outlet for me. It’s a craft I have been able to casually develop over the past 15 years while living in New York City. Baking became my escape to the stressors of city living, and a way to recenter myself. I never thought my passion would amount to anything more than a hobby, but I enrolled in culinary school to learn technique. In 2007, I became a certified pasty chef from the Institute of Culinary Education in NYC. On the weekends, I worked alongside the head cake designer at a local Brooklyn bakery, all while I continued to excel in my career as a shoe designer during the week.
Finally in 2018, I decided to pursue my passion as my full-time reality. I left my design job, moved my family to my hometown, and started Canela Bakeshop.
